A fantastic experience. Life-changing [Postpartum]

"I feel so strong. I was really shocked by how such small movements that she taught me helped me strengthen from the core. I always had this thought that doing planks and crunches...oh my gosh...but that’s not what it’s about at all."

Yoga Therapy

A Holistic Approach

The Method

Multi-certified in women's health, I look through the lense of TCM (traditional chinese medicine) to assess the spectrum of women's common mental and physical health issues. I created the Maya Yoga Method which focuses on blending potent techniques and practices taken from yoga, breath work and meditation as well as any necessary functional movement and/or rehabilitative strategies to begin moving the nervous system back to calm so you can begin to heal.

Customized Treatment Plans

Every woman is so unique and responds differently to stressors. Because of this, the healing process needs to be individualized and customized to meet the whole woman where she is currently at. The Maya Yoga Method does this through a comprehensive and holistic approach to health + wellness that looks at soul, mind, and body as one entity and knows that healing in one will mean healing in the other.

The amazing thing about Yoga Therapy is that the modalities used can work directly alongside western medicine practices and protocols with no negative side effects. In fact, many doctors are now recommending women practice these techniques in conjunction with their prescribed protocols because of the value and benefit that breath work and meditation practices have been shown to have on the body and mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TCM and how is it used in Yoga Therapy?

TCM is a fascinating and thorough modality for assessing patterns that lead to dis-ease and dysregulation. This visual to your right is to help you have a better understanding of HOW I assess your current symptoms. Five of the six "bubbles" you see below represent what TCM has identified as triggers for disease if they become imbalanced or blocked in any way. I use all 5 bubbles in your assessment which helps me identify: affected organs, hormones, and mental health issues. This allows me to make a therapeutic plan designed specifically to nourish and move your body back to homeostasis so that harmony can exist once again. [click the photo to expand]

Is Yoga Therapy suitable for all ages and fitness levels?

Yes. In fact, it is encouraged. Women experience many hormonal shifts throughout their lifetime and the power of these ancient practices are backed by research as a incredible healing tools to support the changes.

Moreover, as a Corrective Exercise Specialist and as someone trained in pre/post natal yoga and fitness, I can truly help anyone with any specific need (see next FAQ).

What sets this approach apart in women's mental and hormonal health?

In the realm of women's mental and hormonal health, my approach stands out as a harmonious blend of modern understanding and ancient wisdom, making it both relevant and timeless.

Not only am I trained, but I have personal experience in suffering (and healing) many of the unfortunately common health symptoms women face.

My passion for helping women connect with themselves aligns seamlessly with my background in yoga and wellness. This, for me, is the personal touch and genuine empathy most women need to help create an environment where she can feel understood and supported, fostering a more effective therapeutic relationship.

Lastly, I am simply a guide. I am here to help you re-connect to yourself. I do not diagnose or claim to heal. What I aim to do is put the woman back in the drivers seat to remind her that she knows her body better than anyone else. These tools help her to reconnect to herSELF. As her mind and body begins to shift, she will self-realize at a deeper level so that she can become more in tune with the health and well-being of her own intelligent body. Once she is fully connected, she will thrive.

Are there any specific prerequisites for starting Yoga Therapy?

Commitment. You have to be ready to put in the work. We meet once a week like any other therapy session to check-in, assess, and modify the treatment plan. But nothing will change if you don't "take your meds" every day. The good thing is that I do everything in my power to set you up for success. The goal is to take stress OFF you, so when we create your treatment plan, we do it with your energy levels, work/time restrictions, and personal life in mind so that it's something you look forward to. I help mentor you to creating better habits and removing obstacles that stand in your way.

In the end, it won't work if you don't. This will change your life, but you have to be committed and foster discipline. I am here to help!

What should I expect during a Yoga Therapy session?

After the initial assessment and intake, I create a treatment plan that we discuss in detail.

In the weeks that follow, we will meet once, either virtually or in-person, for one hour. The first thirty minutes will be a time to check in and talk about how you're feeling and responding to the treatment. From there we make adjustment as needed based on what your body and mind are saying. There is no negative feedback. It's all information to show us where to go next.

This is the amazing work of yoga therapy. It's all cumulative growth that allows for connection, embodiment, and empowerment.
